Dongfeng Motor Corporation Ltd. (Dongfeng Motor or Dongfeng Group), headquartered in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, was formerly known as the "Second Automobile Works" established in Shiyan, Hubei, in 1969. The company's business covers full-series commercial vehicles, passenger cars, new energy vehicles, auto parts, automotive equipment, and automotive finance. It is one of the four major automotive groups in China and a large-scale automotive enterprise directly supervised by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) under the State Council. Dongfeng Motor has four major production bases in Shiyan, Xiangyang, Wuhan, and Guangzhou, forming a business layout of "rooted in Hubei, radiating across the country, and reaching out to the world." In 2024, Dongfeng Motor's 60 millionth vehicle rolled off the production line, making it the second domestic car company to achieve this milestone. The current Chairman and Party Secretary is Yang Qing.
Early Years and Military Roots (1969–1991): The birth of Dongfeng stemmed from the call of the times to strengthen the nation. In the mid-1960s, the CPC Central Committee made a major decision on the Third Front Construction. One hundred thousand builders from all over the country rushed to the deep mountains of northwest Hubei, living in rammed-earth huts and working by kerosene lamp, to carve out a modern automobile city in the gullies. In June 1975, China's first fully independently designed and manufactured military off-road vehicle, the EQ240, successfully rolled off the production line. In 1990, the EQ153, representing a new height in China's heavy truck technology, rolled off the line, ending the history of the Chinese automotive industry lacking heavy trucks.
Joint Ventures and Growth (1992–2020): In 1992, the "Second Automobile Works" was renamed "Dongfeng Motor Company," transforming from a factory system to a corporate system. That year, Dongfeng and Citroën jointly established Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën Automobile Company, introducing the "Fukang" sedan, which led Chinese families into a new era of car ownership. Thereafter, Dongfeng successively established joint venture relationships with international automotive giants such as Nissan, Honda, and Kia, establishing joint ventures including Dongfeng Nissan, Dongfeng Honda, and Dongfeng Yueda Kia, and quickly grew larger and stronger.
New Energy and Transformation (2021–Present): During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Dongfeng Motor deeply implemented the "Eastern Wind Rising" plan and the "Technology Leap" initiative, continued its "Three-Year Transformation and Upgrading Action," and accelerated its transformation and development toward new energy. In 2025, Dongfeng's new energy vehicle annual sales surpassed the million-unit mark for the first time, and independent brand sales exceeded 1.55 million units, accounting for over 60% of total sales, marking the full formation of a dual-wheel drive pattern of independent brands and new energy. Standing at a new starting point at the beginning of the "15th Five-Year Plan," Dongfeng Motor officially released the "Eastern Wind Rising 2030" plan at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, proposing to strive for a global sales goal of 5 million units by 2030, with a new energy vehicle proportion exceeding 70% and an overseas sales proportion reaching 40%.
Dongfeng Motor has formed an independent brand matrix covering luxury, high-end, mainstream, and commercial vehicle full scenarios.
Mengshi – Luxury Electric Off-road: Mengshi (MHERO) inherits the genes of classic military vehicles and is positioned in the high-end electric off-road market, filling a gap in China's high-end electric off-road segment. The Mengshi brand creates benchmark products such as the Mengshi 917 (large rugged off-road) and the Mengshi M817 (urban luxury off-road). Cumulative sales reached 10,200 units in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 386.63%.
Voyah – High-end New Energy: Voyah is Dongfeng's main force in the high-end smart new energy market, having completed a full-category product layout covering SUVs, sedans, and MPVs in five years, and is the first central state-owned enterprise high-end new energy brand to reach a scale of 300,000 units. In 2025, Voyah's full-year sales were 150,200 units, a year-on-year increase of 87.44%.

Cumulative sales reached 274,600 units in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 28.68%. The Yijing brand, jointly created by Dongfeng and Huawei, made its global debut in 2026, further expanding the brand's intelligent vehicle cooperation.
Commercial Vehicles: Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle accumulated the launch of 18 new energy commercial vehicle base models during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, achieving autonomy and controllability of the "three-electric" system. Dongfeng Liuzhou Automobile combines commercial and passenger vehicle operations, with sales of 133,000 units in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 12.04%.
Joint Ventures: Dongfeng owns joint venture brands such as Dongfeng Nissan, Dongfeng Honda, and Shenlong Automobile. In recent years, it has also been actively exploring a new model of "Chinese customers, Chinese standards, Chinese parts, Chinese speed," building a strategic community for value co-creation.

One hundred percent of new technology innovation investments for its main independent brand passenger cars are used for new energy.
Powertrain Technology: Dongfeng cultivates three technical routes: hybrid, pure electric, and hydrogen power. The Mach Power super hybrid dedicated engine's thermal efficiency has repeatedly broken industry records, reaching 47.06%. The company has mastered the core algorithm for L2.9 urban NOA and has promoted L4-level commercial demonstrations. It possesses full technology chain capabilities in the hydrogen fuel field, with the cumulative number of hydrogen fuel commercial vehicle demonstrations ranking first in the industry.
Chips and Intelligence: China's first full-link domestic automotive-grade high-performance MCU chip, the DF30, led by Dongfeng's development, was successfully mass-produced and installed in vehicles, achieving autonomy and controllability of key core technologies. The "Tianyuan Intelligence" technology brand, released in 2025, builds a "One Core, Two Bases, Two Elements" system, with the Taiji large model as the core, the "Tianyuan Architecture" and "Tianyuan OS" as the bases, and "Tianyuan Intelligent Driving" and "Tianyuan Smart Cabin" as the elements. The Tianyuan Intelligent Driving T500 was launched in March 2026, becoming the industry's first mass-production-level generative end-to-end intelligent driving solution.
Advanced Manufacturing: The world's largest tonnage 16,000T integrated die-casting machine has been put into production, capable of producing 200,000 lightweight parts annually, promoting innovation in manufacturing processes.
2026 Targets: In 2026, Dongfeng Motor established the "One Dongfeng" strategy deepening direction, anchoring annual targets of 3.25 million total sales, 1.7 million new energy vehicles, and 600,000 exports, striving with all efforts toward an intelligent, green, and integrated transformation.
2030 Vision: Facing the "15th Five-Year Plan," Dongfeng will continue to implement the "Eastern Wind Rising 2030" plan, focusing on three strategic directions: "Tianyuan Intelligence" (intelligent driving and smart cabin), "Tianjing Zero Carbon" (full new energy routes), and "Tianji Setting Sail" (international layout). It will focus on building four ecosystems: technological innovation, industrial chain security, smart mobility, and autonomous-joint venture synergy, continuously promoting product upward, service upward, and brand upward.
Final Word: Dongfeng will continue to use technological innovation as its brand foundation, accelerate the pace of high-level technological self-reliance and self-strengthening, and commit to becoming a world-class automotive enterprise with global competitiveness, contributing Dongfeng's power to the high-quality development of China's automotive industry.
